CONDITIONING!

One of my favourite areas to listen or speak about when it comes to consulting. Most of us have such false impressions about conditioners! Let’s get into them!

Conditioner is one of the most important steps in washing hair to leave it supple, moist and smooth.
As shampoo is cleansing and taking the pH of hair higher, conditioner comes in rescue to bring it down and replace the keratin that is lost during shampooing.

Its main purpose is to reduce friction between strands of hair to allow smoothness, which might otherwise cause stress to the scalp or hair breakage.

There are several types of hair conditioner ingredients, differing in composition and functionality mainly consisting acidifiers, polymers, antistatic agents, silicon, oils, moisturizers, etc.

How to choose conditioner?
As shampoo is choosen upon priority of scalp and secondary priority of hair, the conditioner is choosen with the primary priority of hair that could be anything color fade, dryness, damage, frizziness, etc.

Conditioner or mask?
Mask/masque are forms of conditioners but in concentration. So, if u r conditioner has power of 5/10, masks have power 10/10.
Some stylist suggest conditioners are for fine hair and masks are for thick hair.
I generally suggest depending upon how much your hair requires conditioning will choose to use either masks or conditioner.
Pro tip * u can keep conditioners for weekday wash as u have keep it for max 2 mins and for the luxury weekend pamper wash switch to mask and keep it for minimum 20 mins.
If u choose to use mask every wash keep it atleast 10 mins to make most of it.

My scalp gets oily!
Conditioner are moisturizers and u have washed to remove extra moisture from scalp. So stop applying conditioners to your scalp, if u r doing it!
If yours scalp is oily, use conditioner atleast 2 inches away.
If u r still finding scalp oily might be your fingers are touching the scalp or while rising some of its remaining behind or switch to a lighter conditioner.

Now Let’s see how to use conditioner or mask;

  • After rinsing shampoo really well, the most important before u take conditioner in your hand is to squeeze of the extra water.Divide the hair in two or three parts to spread the conditioner well and not miss any section of hair.
Its time to take that conditioner again a reminder less as well more is not gonna do any good so take that much quantity only that u need for one divided section.

  • After going thru all the three section and u feel the conditioner is reach through out, wait did u apply the conditioner vertically or horizontally?

  • Yes, it very important to apply conditioner with the flow of hair and not in any other direction as hair is already stressed due to shampooing.

  • So softly, gently massage it from mid lengths to ends , focus this area as it’s where maximum hair issues are!

  • After applying, take either a wide detangling comb or now days u get wet brushes to remove all the tangles and let the conditioner get to spend more time on your hair.

  • Wait! What? U telling me I should comb my hair in wet hair! Yes, only if u u using wide combs or specefic meant brushes for that purpose.

    • It not only gives conditioner to reach each hair strand but also to smooth it better.

    • It easier to remove knots due to moisturing agents.

    • You spend more time = more softness, otherwise we don’t have much to do with wet hair, feel bored and rinse it immediately.

    • It reduces static, so lesser fly outs.

  • If u have curly hair, don’t use a brush but a detangling comb won’t take away your texture but make it better to form locks.

  • Remember, we don’t need to touch scalp while combing!

  • Wait, till the prescribed time of the conditioner you are using!

  • Now let’s rinse! Wait before turning on the shower directly! Take some water and slowly slowly masaage the hair and squeeze. Out the excess conditioner in the same direction u applied, this not. Only reduces time to rinse but keeps the enough moisture into the hair locked.

  • Are your watching out the temperature of water? Cooler the better. We don’t need to perform #icebucketchallenge but room temperature is always recommended for best results.

  • After rinsing again squeeze and wrap the towel to let it soak the excess water.

How many of you are doing this all still finding your hair blah! As I said conditioner is just a product it doesn’t have brain to perform it upon us how we use! So be patient, give time and be generous and most important be wise to choose the right one for your hair type.

I hope this helps you all. Get that gorgeous hair conditioned well.

If u feel your conditioner gives you hair loss this is for you my dear friend!
